Scunthorpe deserved this win but the score-line was perhaps a lsomewhat harsh on Ferriby, especially after a fairly even first-half.

Ferriby had the better of the opening 10 minutes with Joel Ambalu and Alberto causing problems for Scunthorpe. Ambalu forced Matt Gilks in to a diving save then Danny Emerton hit a first time shot wide.

Scunthorpe’s Rory McArdle saw  a header cleared off the line and Liam Hopper missed an open goal from inside the six-yard box.

Play continued with Ferriby giving as good as they got. On the whole, the defence looked solid which is a big boost given they had not played together as a unit before.
 

Ross Durrant, who signed for Ferriby just before the game, tipped a Jonathon Margetts shot over the bar.

Connor Townsend opened the scoring after 36 minutes direct from a free-kick on the edge of the area.  Scunthorpe doubled their lead on forty minutes when a full-length pitch move ended with Margetts scoring from close-range.

Ferriby certainly did not deserve to be two down but Scunthorpe showed the sort of finishing one expects from a league One side.

The second-half belonged largely to Scunthorpe and they punished Ferriby, especially  on breakaways.

Kyle Wootton tapped home a Paddy Madden cross from close range after 54 minutes. Two minutes later Noel Burdett hit home a Madden lay-off from 18 yards.

Wootton scored his second after 77 minutes after latching on to a through-ball and rounding keeper  Lewis Excel to fire in to an open goal.

The final goal came 87^th minute when Cameron Burgess headed home from a corner.

Ferriby changed their team gradually throughout the second-half and played the final 15 minutes with what is basically their academy side.

Manager Steve Housham commented,
“Our first-half performance was particularly good and we can take positives from the game. We need to learn to keep our composure after conceding a goal. We were caught twice today with quick second goals after conceding. However, these games are about learning and that is what we are going to keep doing.””
